Walk the western Lycian Way from Fethiye to Patara on one of Turkey's most rewarding coastal trekking routes. This 8-day itinerary combines dramatic Mediterranean views, traditional village stays, ancient Lycian sites and carefully arranged logistics, including accommodation, transfers and luggage support.

The journey begins around Fethiye and the Babadağ Mountains, continues through Kayaköy, Ölüdeniz, Faralya, Alınca and Gey, and finishes near the ancient city and beach of Patara. It is a strong choice for active travellers who want more than a standard beach holiday: each walking day brings mountain paths, sea views, local food, archaeological remains and authentic village life.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Fethiye

Upon arrival at Dalaman Airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred to Fethiye (approx. 1 hour). Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity to explore the charming harbor town of Fethiye and its lively waterfront. Overnight stay in Fethiye.

Day 2 – Amyntas Tombs, Kayaköy & Ölüdeniz (12 km / 4–5 hrs)

After a short drive, visit the impressive Lycian Rock Tombs of Amyntas, carved into the cliffs overlooking Fethiye in the 4th century BC. Continue to Kayaköy, the famous “Ghost Town” abandoned during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1924. After a traditional lunch in a local family home, explore the deserted stone houses before following scenic trails towards Ölüdeniz. Enjoy spectacular views of the Blue Lagoon and St. Nicholas Island before a refreshing swim and return to Fethiye.

Day 3 – Ovacık to Faralya (15 km / 6 hrs)

Today's hike follows one of the most iconic sections of the Lycian Way. Walk through pine forests and traditional villages while enjoying breathtaking views of Ölüdeniz and the Blue Lagoon. Watch colorful paragliders soaring above the coastline as the trail gradually descends to Faralya, dramatically situated above Butterfly Valley. Overnight stay in Faralya.

Day 4 – Faralya to Alınca (14 km / 6–7 hrs)

Leaving Faralya behind, follow scenic mountain trails above Kabak Bay through pine forests and terraced fields. Enjoy magnificent views of the Mediterranean coastline before reaching the remote village of Alınca, famous for its panoramic views over the Seven Capes region. Overnight stay in a traditional village house.

Day 5 – Alınca to Gey via Sancaklı Beach (16 km / 6 hrs)

Today's route traverses dramatic coastal trails high above the Mediterranean Sea. Passing through unspoiled landscapes filled with wildflowers and Mediterranean vegetation, reach the secluded Sancaklı Beach. Explore the remains of an ancient harbor and church before enjoying a picnic lunch and swimming break. Continue inland to the traditional village of Gey for an overnight stay.

Day 6 – Gey to Gavurağılı via Bel Village & Xanthos (18 km / 6–7 hrs)

The trail leads through olive groves, agricultural fields and traditional mountain settlements before reaching Bel Village. Follow ancient pathways and sections of a Roman road while enjoying magnificent views of Patara Beach and the Mediterranean coastline. After the hike, visit Xanthos, the ancient Lycian capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the remarkable history of the Lycian League, one of the earliest democratic federations in the world. Overnight stay in Patara.

Day 7 – Delikkemer Aqueduct to Patara (7 km / 3 hrs)

After a short transfer, begin your walk at Delikkemer, the remarkable Roman aqueduct that once supplied water to Patara. Follow ancient paths through fragrant Mediterranean countryside before arriving in the historic town. After lunch, explore the archaeological site of Patara, including the parliament building, Roman baths, granary and harbor remains. Patara is also known as the birthplace of Saint Nicholas, later known as Santa Claus. End the day at Patara Beach, one of Turkey's longest sandy beaches and an important nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles. Overnight stay in Patara.
